Public broadcaster Doordarshan's phone-in programme aimed at providing counseling to Kashmir Administrative Service aspirants has evoked a good response from local youths.

The programme is a success as it relates to youth and encourages them to choose administrative services as a career option, Mohammad Rafi, a university student, said on Monday.

He said response to the four episodes of this programme telecast so far has been encouraging as it aroused interest of the kashmiri youth to compete in the competitive exams and removed the "fear" psychois among them.

The DD Srinagar kendra started the programme to highlight the pros and cons of the competitive exams with major focus on the KAS 2009 for which Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC) has advertised 398 posts.

Nazir Nazar, producer-dircector of the programme, said it is "disturbing" to see that in most of the cases it is the parents and the pressure from peer group which compels a student to prepare for B.E and MBBS exams and less attention is paid towards administrative exams.

"This has been proved during the calls which we received in the live programme where most of the callers complained of pressure from their parents to prepare only for MBBS and B.E," he said.

Nazar said keeping in view the demand of the viewers the series would also include counseling sessions by former as well as present members of PSC and guiding tips by female KAS officers also as the participation of females in KAS has been least over the years.
