Mehta shocks Chandra

Defending champion Manan Chandra went down to Aditya Mehta in a quarterfinal of the Nahar MIG All India Invitation Snooker tournament on Saturday.

Defending champion Manan Chandra went down to Aditya Mehta 4-5 (14-106 6-79 75-68 36-64 97-0 10-66 80-21 71-58 47-72) in a quarterfinal of the Nahar MIG All India Invitation Snooker tournament on Saturday.

There was another upset when MS Arun shocked Yasin Merchant 5-3 (61-30 68-34 50-58 80-49 25-54 14-85 65-52 71-68) in a nine-frame game to enter the semifinals.
Mehta took the first two frames comfortably with a break of 89 in the first. But, it was not long before Chandra got into his groove.

The India No. 2 came out strongly to take the third frame but could not do the same in the fourth. With Mehta leading 3-1 after four, the fifth became very crucial for Chandra who dominated it winning the frame 97-0. Mehta made it 4-2, but Chandra was not to be shut out. The New Delhi based cueist won the next two frames, taking the game into the tie-break.

It could have gone to anyone in the last frame with Chandra leading 47-42 but an overshot saw Mehta bag the frame with a break of 30 and making it to the semis.
In another quarterfinal, Alok Kumar registered a 5-3 (31-56 65-53 68-51 67-57 23-85 15-62 70-67 47-1) win over Kamal Chawla. Chawla was 1-3 down but made a comeback and restored parity at 3-3. He was leading the seventh frame 67-51 but somehow managed to miss the pink and gave his opponent six crucial points. Kumar finished off the game with just the black left on the table and then went on to take the eighth frame and win the tie.

The last quarterfinal saw Brijesh Damani rout Rupesh Shah 5-0 (63-45 60-27 94-40 73-44 66-36).
