DHARAMSALA: In the wake of the terror attacks on Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh will seek a battalion of National Security Guards (NSG) to tighten security as the state shares its frontiers with China apart from sharing the border with militancy-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

Answering a question of BJP's Roop Singh in the state assembly today, the Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the state will request the Centre to provide a battalion of NSG to this tourist state.

"HP is sensitive from point of view of security as it shares its border with militancy hit Jammu and Kashmir and frontiers with China," Dhumal said.

He said that security has been stepped up at important temples, tourist spots, courts, major hydro electric power projects and other crowded places across the state.

Quick reaction teams have been set up in the districts and commando training for police personnel has been arranged, he said adding that he would request the Centre to provide funds for specialised training of the commandos.

As a part of special security drill, all vehicles entering the state are being throughly checked and extra vigil is being maintained at Chamba-J&K border, the Chief Minister said.

Bomb disposal squads have been activated and told to remain alert, he added.
