The film-maker is starting his own music label company to optimise his profits

Film-maker Vikram Bhatt, who is soon starting his own music label company, feels that every Bollywood film production house which makes over three films a year should have a record company to maximise profits.

Vikram says: “I realised after making over 20 films that I have lost out on having over 200 songs from those movies in my library because I did not have a record label which could take care of that. ASA music (the new music company) will have all the songs of the films which I’m going to make in the future. 1920 was the last film whose music I had to part with. There will be no more.”

He adds: “I had to give my music rights to other record labels at a cheaper rate. If I keep the music of my films, it only adds to my profits from films. Moreover, our company will be marketing and distributing film and non-film music which will include pop and classical too. We are also open to market films which are outside our ASA Productions banner.”

Vikram goes on to say that every production company now wants to have a record label to their credit.

“Look at the big banners. Everyone has their corresponding record label and why shouldn’t they? They make so many films every year and there are so many hit songs that come out from those projects. No one wants to part with their product. Sometime back a production company only looked at making films but now they are ready to extend their horizons,” he ends.
