Chander Mohan, Haryana deputy CM, is ‘missing’ for a month

CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s deputy chief minister Chander Mohan has gone “missing” for more than a month. Neither his cabinet colleagues nor family members have any clue about his whereabouts.

The deputy chief minister “disappeared” soon after diwali without leaving a word with his family or attending staff, said officials. It is believed that Chander Mohan, son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, has a discord with his family.

Bhajan Lal and his brother Kuldeep Bishnoi, a Bhiwani MP, were recently expelled from the Congress for their anti-party activities.

Curiously, as reports of the “missing” Chander Mohan appeared in the media, the Haryana government dismissed the services of additional advocate general Anuradha Bali igniting speculations about a link between the two.

Last week, Chander Mohan was absent at a cabinet meeting called by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Even Hooda claimed ignorance about his deputy’s whereabouts.

Even Chander Mohan’s staff at the Haryana Civil Secretariat had no idea. “We don’t know where sahib has gone. He has not been in touch with us for many days,” they said, adding that all officials files were being referred to the office of the chief minister in his absence.

While Chander Mohan’s staff at his residence said he had gone to Jammu on poll duty and would be back in a day or two, Phool Chand Mullana, president, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, denied poll duty in J&K to anybody in Haryana.

“All our leaders are busy campaigning in Delhi and Rajasthan. Chander Mohan has not been given any duty in Jammu. Neither did he tell me anything, nor did he inform anybody as to where he was going. I have absolutely no idea where he is,” Mullana said.

However, Bishnoi reportedly said that his brother had gone to Vaishno Devi shrine, near Jammu.

When questioned, Yashpal Singhal, IG (security) Haryana, said, “We don’t keep a
track of VIPs. We just provide security. I don’t know where the deputy chief minister is.”
