AGARTALA: The Tripura Police has decided to set up a full-fledged anti terror squad (ATS) to counter the growing threat perception in the wake of October 1 blasts, the DGP said on Sunday.

Two contingents of paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR) would be sent to Delhi to undergo training in the elite National Security Guards (NSG) Centre in December and February next, DGP Pranay Sahaya said.

"The NSG authority has already agreed to train the selected TSR jawans in two batches," Sahaya said adding handling of high-power explosives and sniffer dogs and modern weapons would be focussed during the training.

Besides, two project proposals for police modernisation have already been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) by the state government.

The projects were sent to the MHA as part of follow-up action plan taken in the DG and IG level meeting held in Delhi early this month.

Two projects are in addition to routine modernisation scheme of the state police, he said.

Around 50 TSR personnel were earlier trained in the NSG academy few years ago and they are now working in different battalions.

The state was rattled by four bomb blasts on October 1, killing two persons and injuring over 100 others.
