NEW DELHI: The effect of Mumbai terror attack is being felt in Delhi polls, as some people have decided to abstain from voting in the assembly elections because of the strikes.

They said they were upset with the killing of innocent people in Mumbai and said they would vote only after they see the government take concrete steps to deal with terrorists.

“I have decided not to cast my vote this time. If the Mumbai attacks hadn’t happened, I would have voted. But now I feel that these politicians don’t do anything for our safety and crores of rupees are spent every year on their security,” said Rajeev Agarwal, a businessman who lives in Greater Kailash where blasts had taken place in October.

“Enough is enough. I need answers. I can’t live my life in the fear of being killed by some men who enter our country and start spraying bullets on our roads,” said Meetali Saxena, a resident of Moti Bagh in south Delhi.

People in Delhi will cast their votes for 70 assembly seats in the capital on November 29 and soon they would know whether the Congress is forming the government or it is the BJP that has been out of power for nearly 10 years.

However, some of the residents of Delhi are still hopeful that things would change and their choice of candidates would help bring about the change and keep their city and homes secure.

“I don’t think politicians in Delhi could have stopped this attack. People who man our deep waters failed in their job and that helped the terrorists enter our country. No politician could have stopped it. It is the job of the security men, not politicians. I will vote,” said Suresh Prasad, software engineer who lives in Dwarka.

Likewise, Vishrut Mittal, a chartered accountant in a multinational company, said, “I will vote for the party that wants to fight terrorism. The time has come when all of us have to come together and choose a government that is ready to take strong steps against terrorists and not make false promises all the time.”
