Says coinage is a face-saving exercise in the run-up to Lok Sabha elections

LUCKNOW: The Sangh Parivar seems to be going all out to corner the Congress and the UPA regime at the Centre in the run-up to Lok Sabha elections. After top RSS leader Madan Das Devi lambasted the party on Saturday for framing Hindu religious leaders in terror cases, Sangh chief KS Sudarshan charged the Congress on Sunday with coining the term ‘Hindu terrorism’ as a “diversionary tactic”.

At an open session to mark the end of a three-day RSS camp here, Sudarshan criticised the UPA regime on several issues, including the Ram Setu, Amarnath shrine controversies and the economic downslide.

“A terrorist has no religion. He is not even a human being, a person who kills
innocents... it is wrong to associate any religion with terrorism,” a visibly-irked Sudarshan told reporters at the end of the camp here on Sunday.

“The (UPA) government has not taken any tough action to curb terrorism. Now that Lok Sabha elections are nearing, people are bound to ask what the government has done. So they have raised this bogey of Hindu terrorism,” he said.

Asked about the Malegaon blast case, the RSS chief said, “Investigation should be carried out. But unnecessarily defaming (innocent) people is wrong.”

Earlier, in his 40-minute speech at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Sudarshan attacked prime minister Manmohan Singh and finance minister P Chidambaram for their “complete failure” with regard to the Indian economy taking a downturn due to the global meltdown.

“Both are top economists. Why couldn’t they do anything to prevent ill-effects of the global slowdown?”

Sudarshan was of the view that the Congress’ policies had gone awry since the very beginning.

“Gandhiji always stressed on strengthening rural economy. But Nehru was always focused on urban development. The effects of those wrong concepts of planning are becoming evident now,” he said.

The RSS chief also slammed the UPA government on the Ram Setu issue, saying, “The government misled the country on this matter. First, they gave an affidavit in the supreme court saying Ram Setu never existed. Later, they said it was there once but Lord Ram demolished it himself.”

Sudarshan congratulated the saffron brigade for the “highly successful” movement over the Amarnath shrine board land controversy. He said Hindu devotees, including women and children, were not cowed down by police excesses during the three-day demonstration over the issue.

“Even children, when asked their names, said they were Ganesh, their father was Shiva and mother Parvati...”

The RSS chief avoided speaking directly about the Malegaon case or about Abhinav Bharat despite repeated questions by reporters.
