NEW DELHI: Polling for the first phase of election in Chhattisgarh has concluded and five other states will go to the hustings within a week, but the Congress party has reportedly not been able to finalise the campaign schedule of its top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi yet.

No schedule has been prepared for the public meetings of party president Sonia Gandhi, the star campaigner of the party, the reports said.

Even in the states where the campaign schedule had been finalised, the party president cancelled her tour, they added.

The Congress chief cancelled her tour to Chhattisgarh where she was scheduled to address two public meetings Nov 12 at Dhamtari and Mahasamund on the last day of campaigning for 39 seats going to polls Nov 14.

This was the second time in the past few days the Congress president had deferred her trip to the state going to polls Nov 14 and 20 to elect a 90-member state assembly.

Earlier, she was scheduled to address two election meetings Nov 10 at Bhilai and Jadgalpur but she put off the visit last minute and her son and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed both meetings.

Party leaders from the states have been demanding as many meetings of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as possible. But the party is yet to finalize the schedule.

“We are working on the campaign schedule of the party president and Rahul Gandhi; we will let you know the schedule as soon as we finalize it,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said.
