NEW DELHI: Taxi drivers zipping across one of the fashionable districts of Tokyo are these days donning t-shirts with 'Incredible India' slogans and bright colourful turbans.
All this and more is part of a massive advertising campaign that was launched in Tokyo by India's tourism ministry Thursday.
These days, a public bus wrapped in 'Incredible India' images is doing the rounds of the city. Launched by Indian ambassador to Japan HK Singh, the bus will ply for two months in the fashionable and trendy quarters of Tokyo from Shibuya to Roppongi, said a statement issued here on Friday.
Apart from this, 10 eco-friendly taxis wrapped in images of India's tourism products, which was flagged off at Ginza, the fashion district of this city last month, are already creating waves.
What has also added to the attraction is the colourful looking Incredible India t-shirts and Rajasthani turbans the Japanese drivers wear.
The advertising campaign launch was followed by an India Evening, attended by opinion makers, media personalities and those from the tourism and travel industry.
A part of this celebration was a yoga performance by Japanese artistes from the Indian Cultural Centre.
“The impact of the outdoor advertising campaign already yielded significant increase in bookings received by the travel industry from this market,” said the statement.
Japan is a prime tourist generating market for India and in 2007, India received 146,000 tourists, including repeat visitors, from this market.
“Outdoor advertising as well as organizing mega promotional events is the strategy adopted for East Asian Markets,” it said.
Also part of the campaign is an Incredible India Golf Tournament to be organised on Dec 15 in Tokyo, followed by the launch of a subway train wrapped in Incredible India images in Seoul, South Korea.
