PANDHARPUR (Maharashtra): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil lashed out at those demanding central rule in the state on Friday, saying Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are fit cases for permanent President's Rule.

“If stray hooliganism of a handful of hotheads be the excuse for demanding President's Rule in Maharashtra, then states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar should be permanently placed under Delhi rule,” Patil, who holds home portfolio in the state, told reporters here in response to the chorus of demand from north Indian leaders.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has consistently engaged in verbal duel with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and criticized the state Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Janshakti Party leader Ramvilas Paswan and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati also joined Lalu Prasad in demanding dismissal of the Maharashtra government after the police shooting of Patna youth Rohit Raj in a city bus in Mumbai and lynching of Dharamdev from Uttar Pradesh in a Mumbai suburban train.

Demanding Thackeray's arrest under the National Security Act, these leaders are also pressing the central government to place the state under President's Rule for its failure to stop MNS hate campaign and ensure security of north Indians in Maharashtra.

RRPatil earlier exhorted leaders of Bihar to concentrate on the development of their state so that hordes of unemployed Biharis don't have to run from state to state seeking sundry jobs and self-employment opportunities.

“We don't have to care one bit about their (north Indian leaders') politically motivated campaign; we are capable of dealing with the trouble-mongers in our state and ensuring security of outsiders,” Patil said.
