PANAJI: The German researcher, who had accused the son and a nephew of two Goa Ministers of raping her minor daughter, is being harassed by the police at the behest of politicians, her lawyer alleged here on Monday.

"Calangute Police yesterday wrote a letter to the mother asking to give all the information about her within two days," Legal counsel Aires Rodrigues said on Monday.

Distributing the copies of letter written by Calangute police, Rodrigues said that they are harassing the researcher at the behest of the state's high profile politicians.

"The mother has been asked to give details of her daily activities, her business activities, source of income and vehicles purchased in Goa. These things are not relevant to the rape case," Rodrigues said.

The German researcher, who is on a long-term visa in Goa, had accused State Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's 21-year-old son Rohit and Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao's 22-year-old nephew Warren of sexually
abusing her 14-year-old daughter.

"This is for the first time it has happened in the history of Goa police that they have given such a short notice of two days to reply," Rodrigues said.

He said despite the victim's willingness to give her statement and get herself medically examined, the police are harassing her.

"I spoke to Superintendent of Police (North) Bosco George asking him to take the girl's statement. He is pointing out to the order of Judicial Magistrate first class (JMFC), which says that the statement can be recorded on November one. If the girl is ready for the statement, why is police not doing it right today?," he asked.

"Nothing stops them from going to her and taking down the statement," the lawyer said.

Earlier, JMFC Mapusa had said that it will record the statement of the girl on November one as she was not ready to depose despite several attempts.

However, George, when contacted, refused to comment on the allegations.

"I don't want to comment anything related to this case," he said.

The lawyer said the girl was admitted to Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) as "she was stressed out" three days ago and was discharged on Monday.
