Father appeals to Indian govt for release of ‘innocent’ Nasir Sultan
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani teen’s Bollywood dream has landed him in an Indian jail.
Nasir Sultan, a standard X student from Chukiatan, a town in the north-western Dir Upper district of the North West Frontier Province, is a diehard fan of Shah Rukh Khan. The glamour of Hindi movies and the brave stunts Bollywood actors perform inspired Nasir to give it a try in Bollywood. The naïve boy was made to believe by his friends that it only required travelling to Mumbai to become a film star.
Knowing that his family, particularly father, would not allow him to go to the tinsel town, he decided to cheat them. On August 16, attired in his school uniform and carrying his schoolbag, he pretended to be going to school just 4 km from his village. However, he headed for Mumbai instead to realise his dream.
Father Sultan Zareen, a petrol pump attendant in the remote Chitral district, says the boy called up home on August 18 to inform he had crossed into India and was in Punjab. If this was not shocking enough, he called up again after 15 minutes to tell he had been arrested by the police.
Even since, the family, particularly Nasir’s mother, is in despair. The helpless Sultan Zareen says his son is in the Faridkot jail for the last two months, but they do not know whom to approach for his release.
“I don’t know what to do to secure his release as he is in another country where I have no influence or resources,” he says, fighting his tears. Sultan Zareen has been knocking at the doors of various NGOs for help.
He says Nasir’s mother is weeping constantly and has become mentally ill due to the shock. Zareen has appealing to the Indian government to release his son as he does not the importance of boundaries.
