HYDERABAD: Over 150 BJP workers and leaders, including the state party unit chief Bandaru Dattatreya, were taken into custody while staging a sit-in in front of the DGP office here on Monday.

The police prevented slogan-shouting BJP activists from barging into the DGP office. The party workers were protesting against the arrest of "innocent party workers and Sangh Parivar activists" in connection with the recent communal violence at Bhainsa town in Adilabad district on October 10.

The BJP workers observed the sit-in for about an hour on the busy road raising slogans against the state government and the police.

Earlier addressing the gathering, Dattatreya alleged that the police have foisted cases against BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers and the arrested workers were being harassed.
