MADURAI: Vijender Singh, who won the bronze in boxing at the Beijing Olympics, was felicitated at a function here.
    
Vijender thanked his coach and members of his family for enabling him to achieve the medal.
    
"Though I have won in an individual event, it is India's victory and our people have celebrated it," he said.
    
He thanked the Centre Sports Council for the support and encouragement given to him.
    
He said at present he was undergoing training to get ready for the World Cup to be held in Russia in December.
    
The programme was organised by Velammal Education Trust here on Saturday and chairman M V Muthuramalingam presented him a shawl, a memento and a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.
    
Former India cricketers Syed Kirmani and Roger Binny also participated in the programme.
