CHATRA (Jharkhand): Suspected Maoists have killed two persons, including a self-styled commander of the banned Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) and injured a villager in Chatra district, a senior police officer said here on Friday.
The TPC activist identified as Nilesh alias Kariman Ganju, was watching a cultural programme at Kunda village late last night when about 50 suspected Maoists surrounded him and opened fire, Assistant Superintendent of Police Kumar Abhishek said.
A villager was injured when a bullet hit him. He had been admitted to a hospital.
The TPC is a breakaway group of the CPI (Maoist) and is engaged in a turf war with the insurgents.
In a separate incident at Sonepur under Sadar police station, one Shyam Singh, who owns a dabha, was beheaded by unknown men last night.
"Though the manner in which Singh was killed indicates Maoists' hand, it could also be the act of some looters," Abhishek added.
