Three decomposed bodies, concealed in two cardboard boxes, were discovered by the officials of Muzaffarnagar railway station in Bihar on Wednesday.

The bodies were found in the luggage compartment of Pawan Express, which left Kurla Terminus at 12.15 pm on Monday.

An official from Kurla railway police said, “The train reached Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday morning.  When the railway staff was unloading the goods from the luggage compartment, they realised that a foul smell was emitting from two of the cardboard boxes. Suspecting that something was wrong, they informed the GRP personnel at the railway station.”

The GRP officers then rushed to the spot and opened the boxes. They found the body of a 40-year-old man in one box, and the body of a 35-year-old woman and a six-month old girl in the other one. All three bodies were in a decomposed state.

“The bodies were then sent to the government hospital at Muzaffarnagar for post-mortem. Preliminary inquiry by GRP officers revealed that the parcels were booked at Kurla Terminus. Therefore, they informed the Mumbai railway police about the incident,” the official said.

“On further inquiry it was found that said parcels were booked under the name of one Sunil Jha, a resident of Jari Mari area at Saki Naka in Mumbai. However, when the officials reached the spot, they found that the address given was bogus,” he added.
