I&B Ministry allocates Rs 450 cr for Film Division

CHENNAI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has allocated about Rs 450 crore for the Film Division in the 11th plan out of which Rs 200 crore would be taken up for various projects like setting up a Centre of Excellence in Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects, a top official said on Tuesday.
    
A Centre of Excellence in Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects would be set up at a cost of Rs 50 crore, Joint Secretary, Information and Broadcasting Ministry, V B Pyarelal said on the sidelines of a seminar on 'Growing Power of Indian Cinema' organised by Confederation of Indian Industry here.
    
The Institute would be established through the Public-Private Partnership mode. The main purpose of the Institute is to tap budding talents in the Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects industry, he said.
    
"The Ministry has also planned to upgrade the Film and Television Institute, Pune to International level at a cost of Rs 50 crore," he said, adding new courses (on Film and Television) would also be introduced there.
    
For the development of Satyajit Ray Film Institute, Kolkata, the Ministry has allocated Rs 42 crore. Due to shortage of staff, 40 lecturers have been appointed there recently, he said.
    
A museum on Film and TV to be set up at Poddar's Road in Mumbai has also been planned at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Besides Rs 30 crore would be donated to National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) for its development and Rs 20 crore for production of documentary movies, he said.
    
Out of 27 applications received from various foreign production houses for shooting in the country, 22 have been approved by the Ministry.
