ABU DHABI: Indian filmmaker Sunil Doshi's critically acclaimed film 'The Prisoner' has been selected for the 'Festival of Festivals' section of MEIFF to be held here this month.

Starring Rajat Kapoor, Doshi's film narrates the story of a writer, who comes out of a prison and accidentally picks up a gangster's briefcase full of cash.

The second edition of Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) from October 10-19, organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), will feature 24 award winning films.

Narratives and documentaries nominated or awarded in the past year at film festivals in France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Mexico and the US, will be the part of this year's festival.

"With so many wonderful films playing at festivals around the world, we are endeavouring to present a unique combination of the year's top movies- a taste of the best," said Nashwa Al Ruwaini, Director of MEIFF.

"Nearly all of these selections have already won top prizes at international festivals. Whether you are seeking crowd favourites or critics' picks, this section has something for you," she added.

The films have been selected from a number of countries including India, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Australia, South Korea and Iran among others.

"This initiative is important as it brings to the local community internationally renowned films. We believe that borders are no longer boundaries, and so we introduce the "Festival of Festivals" to enable cinema lovers to fulfil their passion in catching up with what they missed," said MEIFF Vice Chairman Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei.

MEIFF is an annual event and a project of the ADACH.

The important films to be shown under this section include Iranian film 'Two-Legged Horse' by Samira Makhmalbaf, 'The Prisoner' from India, Iraqi-German co-production 'The Smell of Apples' by Riche Mehta, American film 'Standard Operating Procedure' on photographs taken in Abu Ghraib prison and Russian film "Wild Field" by Dikoye Polye.
