5 Indian films at Asia Pacific Screen Awards

'Om Shanti Om', 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Jodha Akbar' are among the five Indian films nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards-2008, the highest accolade for films in the region.

MELBOURNE: Bollywood blockbusters 'Om Shanti Om', 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Jodha Akbar' are among the five Indian films nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards-2008, the highest accolade for films in the region.
    
The awards for the nine out of the 12 APSA categories will be announced at the popular tourist destination of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, on November 11.
    
The Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer 'Om Shanti Om' will compete with 'Men Jeuk' (Sparrow, Hong Kong), 'Tulpan' (Kazakhstan, Russia, Switzerland/ Poland/ Germany), 'Hong Se Kang Bai Yin' (The Red Awn, People's Republic of China) and 'Uc maymun'(Three Monkeys -Turkey/ France/ Italy) in the Best Feature Film category.
    
Aamir Khan's critically acclaimed "Taare Zameen Par" and K Kanade's "Mahek" will vie for the Best Children's Feature along with 'The Black Balloon', the lone nomination from Australia.     

'Jodha Akbar' has been nominated for Achievement in Cinematography while Rajat Kapoor has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for "The Prisoner" by Pryas Gupta.
    
"The nominees were determined from over 180 films from 43 countries and areas entered the APSAs. We are greatly encouraged by the response from filmmakers from Asia-Pacific in our mission to acclaim their work and promote it to an international audience," APSA Chairman Des Power said.     

"Once again, the nominees showcase the tremendous talent and creativity that exists in the burgeoning film industries of the region," he added.
    
APSA is an initiative of the Queensland Government in collaboration with CNN International, UNESCO and the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) Award.
