NEW DELHI: A teenaged boy, who was allegedly involved in the death of a young man after his BMW hit two motorcyclists a fortnight ago, on Saturday surrendered before police after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by Delhi High Court.

Utsav Bhasin, the 19-year-old son of a Haryana-based industrialist, gave himself up at Pushp Vihar police post this morning, a senior police official said.

Anuj Singh, a BPO executive, died a day after the incident on September 11 near Moolchand flyover in south Delhi when the car allegedly driven by Bhasin hit him and his friend Mayank Srivastav.

Bhasin fled from the scene soon after the incident but could not drive away his vehicle as it developed technical glitches.

The accused, who planned to fly to Singapore for joining a BBA course, was earlier granted bail by Lajpat Nagar police as he was booked under IPC section 304 A (causing death by rash negligent acts), a mild provision which attracts a maximum of two years' jail term.

His surrender came following the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by the High Court which upheld the trial court order.

Bhasin had moved the trial court after police charged him under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) after the death of Singh.

The High Court had held that prima facie there is evidence to show that Bhasin ran away from the spot and did not take the victim to hospital.

"Considering the totality of the facts and circumstances of the present case, it is not a fit case for grant of anticipatory bail," the court had said.
