Jay Bhanushali refused Ekta's Mahabharat because of the costumes and language used

Jay Bhanushali is out of work these days. He is not only out of the reality show Bollywood ka Ticket, he has also quit the daily soap Kayamath. So what made him leave the latter since this was the show that shot him to popularity? He says, “There was nothing left for me to do. I was only shooting once in a while and that too simply giving reactions to the scenes being done. So I had a word with Ekta and we mutually decided that I quit the show.”

But news has it that he was unhappy with being sidelined by Shabbir Ahluwalia.
“Honestly, I did hope that we would get equal footing which was not happening. So when the generation leap happened, I decided that I was better off without Kayamath,” replies Jay.

Not stopping at that, he has now gone ahead and refused Ekta’s magnum opus Hamara Mahabharat. Adding that he was not apprehensive at all about offending Ekta, he says, “She’s quite cool. If you give a suitable reason about your reluctance then she is very reasonable. I was offered the part of Sahadev but I wasn’t comfortable about doing a mythology. I really feel that you need to be a great actor to play such characters. I wasn’t comfortable using the mythology language or wearing those costumes. I saw no point in going ahead with something I wouldn’t be able to do justice to. I explained this to her and she saw my point.”

For someone who has been a part of Balaji Productions for a long time, has he thought of considering other options? Jay justifies, “I am getting all I need from Balaji but that does not mean I am a Balaji loyalist. Balaji gets a preference because I debuted with them.”

For the time being, Jay has decided to chill with his unemployed status. He says, “Kayamath has just ended and so has Ticket to Bollywood. I am in no mood to start on another show right away. I want to chill for at least a month or two before I resume work. I want to do things that I missed out while at work. I am partying hard and meeting all my friends. A trip to Bangkok is also on the anvil.”

Does he have time for love? “I am on the lookout for love too while I am on leave.”
