Sharma's wife to be given job in Delhi Police

The wife of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in a gunbattle with Indian Mujahideen terrorists, will be given a "suitable" appointment in Delhi Police.

NEW DELHI: The wife of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in a shootout with suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists, will be given a "suitable" appointment in Delhi Police on compassionate ground besides liberalised pension benefits.
    
"Sharma's wife has been offered compassionate appointment in a suitable post in Delhi Police besides being given an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said here.
    
In accordance with the instructions from the Central government, Bhagat said, Delhi Police has also announced that Maya Sharma, the inspector's wife, will be awarded liberalised pension equal to the last pay drawn by the Special Cell officer.
    
The 43-year-old officer served the city police for 19 years before succumbing to bullet injuries he suffered in a fierce shootout with five armed "terrorists" at a house in south Delhi on September 19.
    
The officer's family will also be given Rs 2.67 lakh as death-cum-retirement gratuity while Rs 2.23 lakh (10 months salary) as leave encashment.
    
From the Delhi Police Welfare Scheme, Bhagat said Rs three lakh will be paid. Rs two lakh insurance amount from the UTI will be given as Sharma had a salary account in the bank.
    
Another Rs three lakh will be given to the family under the government scheme for victims of terrorism.
    
The provident fund will also be released to the family besides Rs 60,000 from the link insurance scheme.
    
An amount of Rs 30,000 and premium and interest Sharma paid for the Central Employees Insurance will be given to the family, Bhagat said.
    
Delhi government has already announced a compensation of Rs 11 lakh for the family.
    
A leading real estate development company, Sweta Estates Pvt Ltd, also handed over a cheque of Rs ten lakh on Wednesday to the family members of Sharma as a mark of respect.
    
On September 19, Jaiprakash Associates had announced that it will give Rs 11 lakh to the family of Mohan Chand Sharma.
    
Considered an encounter specialist and posted with elite anti-terror squad Special Cell, Sharma (43) was a highly decorated officer with seven gallantry medals to his credit, including President's Medal for Gallantry.
    
During his service, he was instrumental in the killing of 35 terrorists and the arrest of another 80 militants.
    
At least 40 inter-state gangsters also fell to his bullets. He also arrested another 129 gangsters.
