MUMBAI; Bollywood circles are abuzz with speculation about how many crores the big stars make per film. But not even the most exaggerated guesstimate for Bollywood comes even close to what the Hollywood biggies take home.

Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks leads the bunch with his per film fee almost reaching $49 million or Rs225 crore, says Forbes.com.

Among other top male actors, Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise charge around $30 million (Rs138 crore) per film, along with a share of the film’s profits.

Brad Pitt and Leonardo Di Caprio are said to take home about $20 million per film (Rs92 crore), plus 20 per cent of the gross box office profit.

Amongst the actresses, Reese Witherspoon tops the list as she is said to earn about $15 million to $20 million (Rs69-92 crore), Angelina Jolie makes about the same amount, Cameron Diaz makes about $15 million (Rs69 crore) per film, followed by Nichole Kidman whose per film fee is said to be somewhere between $10 million and  $15 million (Rs46-70 crore).

Kidman has Renee Zellweger, Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts for company, who make about the same amount of money. Drew Barrymore and Halle Berry are said to earn a little less at around $10 million per film (Rs46 crore).

But despite being the highest paid actors, all these stars don’t lead the list of the year’s top earners. According to Forbes, Will Smith leads the pack as he took home an estimated $80 million (Rs368 crore) between June 2007 and June 2008.

Considered one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood, Will Smith delivers almost 100 per cent box office hits (his last eight hits have apparently made around $100 million — Rs460 crore — at the box office), be it a thriller like I am Legend or an emotional film like The Pursuit of Happyness.

Pirates of the Caribbean Star Johnny Depp is said to have made $72 million (Rs330 crore) this year. Though his serial killer movie Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street didn’t really ring the box office, Depp won an Oscar nomination for his role.

The reason why Tom Cruise might have not made it to the top earners this year in spite of being among those who charge the highest amount is because he has turned a producer himself and also he prefers working with choicest film makers like Steven Speilberg.

Eddie Murphy came in third among Hollywood’s top earners, with $55 million (Rs253 crore). The comedian even got an Academy award nomination for Dreamgirls. The Austin Powers star Mike Myers is said to have made the same amount as Murphy did, a large part of which is to the huge success of animated film Shrek. (Myers was Shrek’s voice).

Titanic star Leonardo Di Caprio made about $45 million (Rs207 crore) during this year. Bruce Willis made $41 million (Rs189 crore), Ben Stiller $40 million (Rs184 crore), Nicholas Cage $38 million (Rs175 crore), comic actor Adam Sandler  $30 (Rs138 crore) million and Will Farrell $31 million (Rs 142 crore)

Between June 2007 and June 2008, Hollywood actors collectively made an estimated amount of $487 million (Rs2,240 crore) and the actresses made about $244.5 million (Rs1,125 crore), according to Forbes.com.
