BANGALORE: Describing the Delhi serial blasts as an "extremely sad incident", chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies Limited N R Narayana Murthy sought enhanced vigilance to protect innocent people on Monday.

"It is extremely sad. I think in this country we all have to look at ourselves... first as an Indian rather than as someone belonging to any religion," he told the media here.

"We need to enhance our vigilance resources to make sure that innocent people do not die or get hurt," Murthy said.

On reports that software experts were involved in terror attacks in the country, he said, "I don't have data and do not want to comment on any issue on which I do not have data."

To a question on suggestions he would offer to the government on tackling the problem, he said, "there are enough smart men in the central government to handle the problem...It has become a front-burner problem. I have no doubt they will put their best brains forward and come out with a solution".

"We live in a complex world. It is more complex, more polarised. We live in a world where there is plurality of opinion.

"This is bound to result in some discomfort, anger and frustration and sadly some loss of lives. We need to create an environment where issues can be discussed in a civilised ways without resorting to violence," he said.
