Police yet to make breakthrough in terror email origins

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have yet to make a breakthrough in finding the origin of the terror email sent by "Indian Mujahideen", traced to an electrical components manufacturing company in Chembur, north-east Mumbai, warning of the Delhi serial bombings.

"Investigations are in progress and it is too early to reach any conclusion now," ATS chief Hemant Karkare said on Sunday.

A team of police and ATS helped by cyber crime experts were engaged in checking all the computers in the company premises to trace the machine from which the IM email could have been sent.

Since the site is located in a commercial-cum-industrial area, many of the units are not fully operation on Sunday, while many others had given an off on account of Ganesh visarjan (immersion of Ganesh idols).

The IP address from where the email was sent Saturday evening belongs to M/s Kamran Power Controls Pvt Ltd, located at 201-202 'Erik House' Commercial Complex, 16th Road, Chembur, through the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) lines on the premises.

Founded in 1981, the company has up to 50 employees and is engaged in manufacture of light switch boards, motor control centres and power control centres for the power, steel, cement, pharmaceutical, sugar and paint industries. It is owned by M.K. Kamath who is the managing director.

The Delhi serial bombings killed 20 people and injured around 100.
