Retired govt employee, wife arrested

KOLHAPUR: A retired State government official and his wife were arrested on charges of acquiring property dispropotionate to their income, police said.
    
Police arrested Mukund Murari Acharya (62), a retired Assistant Director of Higher Education, and his wife Usha, a Principal in a B Ed college, Friday, for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets worth Rupees nine lakh.
    
A complaint of cheating was registered against Mukund at the Nanded police station in 2002. Based on this complaint, police started to inquire about his property records during his working years between 1971 to 2005.
