JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government should be specific about the use of the 40 hectares of land for the Amarnath pilgrimage, an official of the Sri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti said on Saturday ahead of the fourth round of talks to solve the bitter row over the land.

Suchet Singh, spokesperson of the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, said the formula for use of the land at Baltal for the yatra (pilgrimage) period should be specific. "It shouldn't be vague," he said.

He said that the Samiti was not informed about the forth round of talks between the governor's panel and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board at 4.30 p.m. "So far nothing has been conveyed to us regarding the next round of talks," he said.

Suchet Singh is head of the four-member panel of the Samiti that has been holding talks with the governor's panel since Aug 23.

However, a government official insisted that the Samiti had been informed about the timing of the talks.

The government has not conveyed any peace formula so far, Singh said.

There is a possibility of the talks running into rough weather because of the tough stand taken by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is insisting that the separatists' panel Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee be included in the talks.

The Samiti has been heading the over two-month-long Jammu agitation for the restoration of the land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The land was first allotted to the board and then cancelled by the state government following massive protests in the Kashmir Valley. The cancellation calmed tempers in Kashmir, but ignited a counter-agitation in Hindu-dominated Jammu.
