TV actress Smriti Irani is all set to make her Hindi film debut this year. The actor will feature in Mallik Ek, a devotional film on the life of Sai Baba. She has a pivotal role and is also the narrator of the story. Kishori Shahane, the producer of the film confirms the news. “Yes this is Smriti Irani’s debut in the Hindi film industry.

She is the narrator. The most interesting part is that she is personifying the mosque Dwarka Mai (where the saint lived for many years). For instance one scene, will have her tell Laxmi Bai, an ardent devotee (Divya Dutta) that Sai Baba still lives in the mosque,” she says.

When asked why she chose Smriti for the role she says, “She has been extremely popular as Tulsi in Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Her character has gone through a lot of ups and downs and she has portrayed  it with sheer conviction. She is recognised among NRIs too. Above all, she has given a fabulous performance in the film.”

Kishori’s husband Deepak Balraaj Viiz is the director of the movie, Jackie Shroff is playing the title role of Sai Baba. The supporting cast includes Divya Dutta, Rajeshwari Sachdeva, Zareena Wahab and Sudesh Berry.  Shakti Kapoor would be playing the villain. The music has been composed by Anup Jalota. Singers including Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Ghulam Ali Khan, Shreya Ghoshal have given their voices for the movie. The film is set to release within the next two months.
