JALPAIGURI: After striking a deal to sell his two sons for Rs 1,000, a worker of a closed tea garden was beaten up by locals suspecting him to be a child lifter leading to his death.
    
Ganesh Ganju, worker of the closed Mujnai tea garden, was severely thrashed by the local people of Shishubari market in Jalpaiguri district where he had gone to sell his two sons Sanjay (5) and Saqnjib (3).
    
A deal was struck for Rs 1,000, but the locals beat Ganesh as they suspected him a child lifter.
    
A TB patient, Ganesh returned home walking about ten km only to succumb to his injuries.
    
The incident occurred on August 25 and the matter came to light after Ganesh's death. The matter was not reported to police by the family.
    
Additional SP, Alipurduar, Sabyasachi Raman Mishra said thay had made an inquiry after knowing the incident and registered a case of unnatural death.
