KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has demanded a probe against outgoing Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Nasim Ashraf, who was accorded a warm send-off by PCB officials on Friday.
Miandad have criticised Ashraf's policies as PCB chairman and have asked the government to launch a probe against him. He has been joined by several former Test cricketers in demanding an investigation against Ashraf.
Miandad believes that corruption in the PCB was rampant during Ashraf's tenure and he should be held accountable for it.
Miandad also asked the government to place Ashraf's name on the exit control list (ECL).
"I fear that Nasim Ashraf will leave for the states soon so his name should be put on the ECL until the probe into cricket affairs is completed," Miandad said in a statement.
Ashraf, who resigned as the PCB chief earlier this week after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf stepped down from his post, visited the Board headquarters at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium for a farewell meeting with his ex-colleagues.
Ashraf was given a 'warm and sentimental' send-off by PCB employees and members of the Governing Board in Lahore.
The Board employees were disappointed over his exit, according to a senior PCB official.
"It was a warm and sentimental affair," PCB's media chief Mansoor Suhail said.
Ashraf, who was based in the United States before he became the PCB chief, told reporters that he did his best to boost Pakistan cricket during his two-year stint.
"I have a genuine love for cricket and tried my best to take Pakistan cricket where it truly belongs," he said.
"I may have committed some mistakes during my tenure but my intentions were to promote Pakistan cricket. I am leaving PCB and Pakistan cricket in a good shape and pray that things get even better in the future," Ashraf said.
