MUMBAI: Yesteryear actor Manoj Kumar on Tuesday filed two cases against actor Shah Rukh Khan and film maker Farah Khan for failing to delete scenes from the film 'Om Shanti Om' that "defamed" him.
"We have filed a suit against Shah Rukh, Gauri Khan and Farah before the Andheri Metropolitan Court under sections 420 (cheating), 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code," Kumar's lawyer Ashok Sarogi said.
"We have also filed a defamation case before the sessions court at Dindoshi seeking Re one as token for damage to Manoj Kumar's reputation, which cannot be accounted for in terms of money," he added.
In a relief to Kumar last week, the court had allowed his application seeking deletion of the scenes that make a "mockery" of him, while telecasting the film on television.
However, Kumar has now filed the suit against the trio for "defaming" him.
According to the application, Shah Rukh Khan had personally assured Kumar that the scene would be deleted before it was screened in theatres.
The film has been running for the past nine months in theatres inclusive of the defamatory sequence, Sarogi said adding, later Shah Rukh told Kumar that the copyrights of the film was with the production company and he could do nothing about it in his personal capacity.
