MUMBAI: More heavy rains are likely to hit the city and its suburbs in the next two days not withstanding a temporary respite this morning after continuous downpours in the last three days affected rail and road traffic.
    
Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains and thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds in the city and its suburbs in the next two days.
    
The department recorded 20.6 mm of rainfall at the Colaba station in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am and its Santa Cruz observatory recorded 68.3 mm.
    
Rail services were back to normal today but road traffic was still affected due to several potholes and water logging in various parts of the city.
    
The rail link between Pune and Mumbai was restored this morning after disruption for the last two days due to heavy rains that caused a blockade in the route near Khandala.
    
The sea is likely to be rough and fishermen have been advised by the Meteorological Department not to venture into the sea during next 24 hours.
    
Heavy rainfall is forecast over ghat areas and in the districts of Greater Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg during the next 12 hours, officials at the Meteorological Department said.
    
Downpour is also likely over districts of Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha and over Goa during the same period.
    
Meanwhile, rains continued to lash Nashik district and people living on the banks of river Godavari were alerted while Nasik-Aurangabad road was closed for vehicular traffic as flood waters inundated Saykheda-Chandori-bridge on Monday evening.
