JAMMU: The all-party delegation’s attempt to buy peace with Kashmir Inc, which has decided to march on the cross-LoC Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road on Monday, did not fructify, with the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) boycotting the meeting with the central team led by Union home minister Shivraj Patil in Srinagar at the eleventh hour.

In fact the situation aggravated after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti decided to join the march organised by the separatist Hurriyat Conference, fruit growers and traders.

On Saturday, the talks between the delegation and the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti too had yielded no result, with the samiti vowing to continue its agitation for restoration of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

The KCCI team said it decided to boycott the meeting after it was allegedly made to wait for an hour.

“Eleven of us had gone to meet the delegation, but we were treated shabbily. We had no option but to boycott the meeting in protest to send a clear signal that they can’t take us for granted,” chamber president Mubeen Shah said.

KCCI is supporting the ‘Muzaffarabad Chalo’ call given by fruit growers, who have the support of both the Hurriyat factions.

“We have been left with no option but to hit the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad (capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) road because of
the economic blockade. Our fruit has rotten, our trucks are being torched and stoned,” Shah said.

A visibly upset Shivraj Patil asked the fruit growers not to go “to the other side”.
“It is neither good for you, nor for us. Fruit growers should not take any measure that is against the interests  of the state and the country,” he said.
