The board wants land returned and state governor recalled

JAMMU: The much-hyped talks between the all parties delegation led by home minister Shivraj Patil Shri Amarnath Sangrash Simiti (SASS) yielded no results  with the Simiti sticking to its guns vowing to continue their agitation till land is given back to the Board.

It was after several obstacles that  SASS, which is at the helm for restoration of  land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), decided to come on board but not before all the four Kashmiri leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah, Saif-ud-din Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad quit the delegation paving way for the meeting.

SASS threatened to boycott the meeting on Saturday if these leaders were part of the delegation, forcing the authorities to reschedule the meeting.  Back room channels remained active all day and contact was established with SASS leaders to be a part of the meeting.

Insiders said though Mehbooba and Soz hinted at remaining out of the delegation, it was Farooq’s adamant attitude that resulted in a deadlock-like situation. Mehbooba and other leaders left quietly after lunch. “If my stepping out will solve any issue I have no objection. But there can be no solution unless Kashmiri leadership is on board too”, said Mehbooba.

SASS convener Leela K Sharma  was gung-ho saying it was the first victory of the people of Jammu after 40 days. Later, Sharma led the 24-member team into a
meetings with the central team .

After emerging from it, Sharma said, “We have kept our demands including giving back land to SASB and recalling the governor.”
