NEW DELHI: The BJP and the Sangh Parivar agree that there is serious trouble in Jammu, but they have serious differences over the approach to be taken on the Amarnath land issue. While the RSS and VHP favour a more confrontationist stand, the BJP wants to go step by step.

The RSS and VHP have already announced their intention to make Jammu an Ayodhya-type issue.

On Friday, BJP president Rajnath Singh spoke to the prime minister and agreed to send a representative, Arun Jaitley, to Jammu as part of the all-party delegation.

However, the decision did not come easy. Some party leaders, during the day, appeared satisfied with the outcome of the all-party talks, with the BJP’s basic demand of direct talks with the agitators in Jammu accepted.

Later in the day, after a meeting of the party’s core committee at LK Advani’s residence, the BJP said the government did not appear serious about solving the problem.
