CHANDIGARH:  After the Haryana government suspended arms licences of 43 persons in Sirsa district, the Sikhs have been up in arms against the government for its alleged bias against them.

The arms licences were suspended after a violent clash between the Sikhs and the Dera Sacha Sauda followers  last month.

Baljit Singh Dadu, head of Gurdwara Granthsar and chief of the Khalsa Action Committee, which has been spearheading a tirade against Dera Sacha Sauda, has reacted the government action and registration of cases against seven persons allegedly at the behest of the dera.

Dadu alleged that the dera followers had so far killed three Sikhs, but the government had taken no action against them. “Nor has any attempt been made to suspend arms licence of any of the Dera follower,” he added.

He said the authorities had been playing a partisan role in the controversy involving the Dera and harassing innocent Sikhs at the behest of the dera.

He alleged that 43 arms licences of Sikhs from Dadu village had been suspended and they had been told to deposit their weapons, whereas not a single dera follower had been told to do so. He alleged that the police had been raiding houses of seven Sikh youths, who had been forced to run away from the village.

Dadu said villagers had constituted a 15-member action committee of Sikhs for dealing with the authorities and they would not allow the police to raid houses of innocent Sikhs.
Meanwhile, after talks between the management of Dera Sacha Sauda and members of the peace committee, the Dera followers have put off their plan to organise a protest march in Sirsa.

Dera spokesman Pawan Insan confirmed that the proposed protest march of the dera followers had been postponed by the action committee and the youth welfare committee of the Dera for now.

Dera followers had earlier given a memorandum to the district authorities on July 28 in this connection and a deadline of August 4 had been fixed for action on their demands.
They had announced the holding of a protest march of thousands of men and women in the town today and also threatened an indefinite dharna later in case their demands were not met.
