MUMBAI: The police were conducting searches at suburban Kalyan, Ambernath and Thane railway stations looking for possible bombs following a phone call that these places would be targeted.

The police in Kalyan near here received a telephone call from an unidentified person claiming that after the Ahmedabad blasts, Kalyan, Ambernath and Thane stations would be targeted, police said.

Following the call, searches were being conducted at all the stations on both the Central and Western Railway, they said.

The Western Railway was the target of serial bombings in July 2006 in which 187 people were killed.

Earlier in the day, the police received a call claiming explosives had been planted in a residential colony in western suburb of Andheri.

However, it turned out to be a hoax after the police did not find any explosives there.

The financial capital is already on a high alert following the back-to-back bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
