Kya Aap Panchvi Fail Champu Hain, a television show, started out a month and a half ago. The show aimed to spoof Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain, a popular quiz show on television hosted by Shahrukh Khan. However, on Wednesday, the spoof’s organisers realised that they themselves had been made a champu of.

Simran Studio, the set from where the show was being telecast, was constructed in a no development zone at Patharewadi in Malvani, Malad. The organisers had rented the 4,000 sq ft mega studio from the plot’s owners Dilbaug and Bhupender Singh Deo.
A special demolition squad of the BMC, on Tuesday, razed the studio notifying it as illegal. Deputy municipal commissioner Milind Shambharkar said the owners had constructed the set about a year back and used to rent it out for shooting commercially. The show’s organisers, added Shambharkar, rented the set for three months and were functioning out of there.

On receiving a tip off about the illegal structure, a team led by Shambharkar inspected the site on June 12, serving the owners a notice under section 351 of the municipal act. “The owners were asked to produce documents validating the construction or remove it voluntarily. We took this action because they did nothing about it.”

The squad brought down three make up rooms and a tin shed-covered studio among other structures. Shambharkar said the organisers had packed up most of their belongings on Monday after BMC officials intimated them about the demolition.

Though the owners were present at the site during the action, they refused to speak to the media.
