His mom wanted him to become a banker but Shreyas decided to follow his passion instead, reports Prithwish Ganguly

If Shreyas Talpade’s mother had her way then he would have been a banker instead of an actor. Thankfully, Shreyas followed his passion and as it stands now he is one of the very talented character actors Indian cinema has to offer to its audience.

“My mother always thought that I should take up a job at a nationalised bank because it was a safe career option. So, when I expressed my desire to be an actor, it came something like a shock to them,” Shreyas says.

He goes on to justify his parents’  decision, “Their reaction was normal and natural because they were thinking about my future. Without any godfather in the industry, they thought that I did not stand a chance. What they thought was right but I had the passion, the dream to be a film star and not anything else.”

Shreyas is currently busy with five films Paying Guest, Golmaal Returns, Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, Click and Aashayein and genres of those films range from horror, comedy and drama. He comments that he is experiencing a definite high in his career.

“I think I have been very lucky. I have done a good mix of roles in different and diverse films that has given me the scope to perform and thankfully people have noticed my acting,” he says.

Shreyas adds, “It is a great phase of my life  certainly and I want to keep  doing some really good work. I’m looking forward to work in diverse films and have no intention to get typecasted.”

Ask him about which film he credits for his purple patch and the actor  remarks: “I think it’s the mix of commercial as well as serious cinema that has given me this recognition. I’m really thankful to Nagesh for trusting me with Dor as well as Iqbal in which I played two entire opposite characters — one who could not speak and one who could not stop talking.”

However, there are some film that gave him the much-needed recognition as an actor.

“My commercial films like Apna Sapna Money Money and Om Shanti Om were also good films that I did. It established me as someone who could do both genres of cinema,” he ends.
