MUMBAI: A 49-year-old Bhojpuri movie producer was allegedly abducted by a group of film editors here, police said on Saturday.

Harinamsingh Ranjitsingh was kidnapped and later released by four persons during the editing of his upcoming film 'Piya Mera Pagal' in suburban Andheri in the wee hours on Saturday, they said.

Someone from the group of abductors allegedly shouted Harinamsingh's name due to which the producer stepped out of the Trishul Editing Studio on the New Link Road.

Harinamsingh was hit on the face by one of the accused after which a couple of his friends accompanying him came out. The abductors hit them too and fled with Harinamsingh in an autorickshaw, they said.

However, Harinamsingh was released soon by the abductors after they travelled a short distance in the three-wheeler, they said.

No arrest has been made in the case so far.
