AHMEDABAD: Sharad Pawar said the BCCI will not interfere in the participation of any team in the proposed Champions League Twenty20 tournament. Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi had ruled out the possibility of any team that includes cricketers associated with the ICL.

As many as 15 English counties have players with ICL connections. Middlesex, Essex and Somerset, are the only ones without the ICL players.

Pawar, who was in Mundra, Gujarat, on Tuesday said, “If England is sending ICL players in Champions’ League, BCCI will not mind. BCCI do not have any role in that. England and Wales Cricket Board have to decide the players in the team; whoever comes will play the match. We will not interfere in their decision, even if they send ICL players.”

Modi vowed that no concessions will be made against players associated with the ICL. “Any ICL player playing for any team automatically disqualifies that team from participating in the Champions League. No exceptions will be made under any circumstances,” he had said.

Interestingly, players like Stuart Law of Australia, Nicky Boje and Dale Benkenstein of South Africa and Darren Maddy and Chris Read of England were not only allowed to play in the County championship but also named as skippers of different counties. There are 25 ICL player who are playing in the county circuit.

Chennai Superstars skipper Law recently lashed out the Indian Board for prohibiting budding cricketers from blossoming. “It’s an injustice to Indian cricket, not just the players. They’re shooting themselves in the foot as the talent on show is at the highest level of domestic cricket. It is, and will be, a huge shame if players miss out. The Indian sides should want to tap into the talent on show,” the World Cup winner said.
