The exploits of the fiery 17th century ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji will be captured in a mega budget television serial, reveal sources. The serial will have 150 episodes. Set designer Nitin Desai will be donning the hat of the creative producer and Neeta Lulla will be designing the grand period outfits adds the source.

Chhatrapati Shivaji, also called Shivaji Bhosle or Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle, was born on February 19, 1627. He was the founder of  Maratha Empire in western India. He is considered a great Indian hero, especially in Maharashtra.

“The cast of the serial is being finalised. The serial will have a huge budget as the producers have to create the entire period look for the serial — the forts, palaces, roads and war sequences  will be very authentic,” says the source, who also added that the serial would be in Marathi and would be aired on a new television channel.

When contacted, Nitin Desai declined to speak about this serial but Neeta Lulla confirmed doing the project. “Yes I’m currently working on the television serial Shivaji along with Nitin Desai. It will be a very grand project,” she  says.
