Akshay Kumar discusses his new action show, declining to have his wax statue at Madame Tussauds and staying away from buying cricket teams, with Riddhi Doshi

While Shah Rukh Khan’s Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai is still striving hard to grab attention, Akshay Kumar is gearing up to host and perform stunts in the action-packed show Fear Factor—Khatron Ke Khiladi for the soon-to-be- launched channel Colours.

When asked whether he had agreed to the small-screen offer following his peers SRK and Salman Khan (Dus ka Dum) he laughs, “Mujhe bachchpan se copy karne ki adat hai.” On a serious note he adds, “I love action. I want to do something different. I’m not trying to compete with anybody. I don’t believe in competition. My father always said, ‘Believe in God and lead your life with confidence’. I take life with a positive approach.”

Recently, Akshay was also approached by Madame Tussauds to have his wax statue displayed there following those of Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, SRK and Salman Khan. But Akshay refused the offer. “I’m not yet good enough for that. I’ve to achieve a lot more in life,” he modestly states.

Quiz him why he didn’t opt to buy a cricket team like his peers, and he answers, “I am into sports and not trading. I believe in healthy stuff, not war. I do represent a team in IPL. That much of involvement is just fine.”

While his latest film Tashan failed to live up to expectations, Akshay admits, “I need to put in more efforts and perform better perhaps.”

Coming back to the theme of his show, what does he fear the most? “I fear investing money. I also fear animals. But I like to deal with this.”  And doesn’t his family fear his doing daredevil stunts? “My family has got used to it. They have given up on me now,” confesses Akshay.

Ask him whether son Aarav enjoys watching his khiladi act and he replies, “He loves me doing stunts and watches them too. But if he gets to see Tom & Jerry cartoons then my movies take a backseat.”
