She has only one film in her kitty and her last on-screen appearance in the film Speed failed. Even though Urmila Matondkar is making an entry into mainline TV shows (these days it means reality shows), she says it’s not the end of her movie career yet.

“Movies have always been the be-all and end-all for me. I cannot imagine my existence without films,” she said. Nevertheless TV is definitely an alternative career route for her, the actress confirms.

“I have never limited myself. I have constantly experimented with new things and have delivered the best I could. Television is exciting me now but cinema is my first love and will always be,” the actor said.

But why isn’t this Bollywood ‘A-lister’ not to be seen in many movies these days?
“I have (a lot of) projects with me. But currently I’m filming only Karzzzz and will take up more films if it (the script) excites me,” she added.

Urmila is not the only big Bollywood star to be seduced by the small screen. From the likes of King Khan to Amitabh Bachchan to Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, all have fallen prey to the medium which has a much wider reach than cinema. And it actually ended up giving their careers a much-needed boost. It only needs to be seen whether the same magic formula works for Urmila or not.

So, what’s the reason for joining this bandwagon?
“I had no filmi background nor did I have many friends in the industry or with the media. After more than 10 years in the industry, I have realised that it is for the audience that I have survived in this industry. It is again for the audience that I have stepped into TV. It is the best medium to connect to with the fans,” she added.

So shall we get to hear her sing on the television show Waar Parriwar?
“Well yes, here and there, after I have sung with Asha ji, I have got a passport to sing. I loved the concept of this show and anything that has music and dance I connect to it instantly,” the svelte actor said.

Urmila, however, is not ready to talk about her film right now. “It’s too early to talk about it. We just started shooting. I had a schedule in South Africa but I had hardly anything to do.”
