When Mona got her first break with Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, she signed an exclusive three-year-contract with Sony to maintain exclusivity. Post the successful show and a break of six months, she participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, which also went to become a big hit among audiences. Looking at her increasing popularity, Sony signed her for one more year to be their brand ambassador. The contract, in fact, just got over on March 31 this year.
Mona says, “I am extremely happy with my association with the channel. But this time I haven’t renewed my contract as I think it is time to move on.”
Mona wants to be a part of the channel boom that the small-screen industry is witnessing currently. “It’s an exciting time. I think we should be seen on multiple channels rather than on just one particular channel,’ she adds, revealing that offers from other production houses and channels have already started pouring in.
Is Sony okay with her change of stance? “I owe everything to Sony and there is no bad blood between us. They understand that it is the right time for me to move on. I’ve grown a lot as a professional over the years. I’ve also given the channel successful shows. We are always in touch. I think they are planning some new show with me,” she adds.
Mona is currently doing the show Extreme Makeover India based on a format owned by ABC network. A 13-part reality series, which intends to resurrect the lives of distraught individuals facing stigma due to facial disfigurements, it will feature 13 selected individuals who will undergo reconstructive surgeries combined with fitness, diet and styling over three months.
