More than 20 international cricketers, including under-19 World Cup heroes, to go under hammer

MUMBAI: Virat Kohli and & Co will come under the hammer at the second auction of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.

The junior World Cup heroes will be up for sale along with more than 20 international cricketers. All the eight franchisees are expected to take part in the auction, which, according to one IPL official, is being held on the request of the teams.

The junior World Cup heroes, however, will not be made available for an open bidding. The IPL has fixed 30,000 for each player and the franchisees will get the basis of a draw of lots.

Meanwhile, players like Misbah-ul-Haq, Shane Watson, Mohammaed Hafeez, Jeetan Patel, Prasanna Jayawardene will be among the players to be auctioned.

There will also be two players from Bangladesh. Besides players like Shaun Tait, some more have expressed interest to be part of the IPL and they may also be put up for sale.

In all, there will be seven New Zealanders, four Australians, three Pakistanis, two Bangladeshis, one Sri Lankan and South African each for sale. There will be no English cricketer however.

Mohammad Yousuf and Ashwell Prince, who did not find any takers last time around, will be also available for sale.

Meanwhile, Jaipur franchisee is set to call the shots in Tuesday’s event as it has more than one million left in its funds that each franchisee is required to spend on the players.
“We’ve a game plan and target players. We’ll move according to our plan and it has nothing to do with the amount available at our disposal,” said Fraser Castellino of Jaipur team.

For teams like Bangalore, who have only about $23,000 to spend, the auction has
significance for other reasons. “I’m not sure if we will be aiming for too many players. But we’ll be there to reconfirm and clarify a lot of things. It is a good platform for this,” Charu Sharma of the Bangalore team said.
