Actor Deepshikha talks about making a comeback after almost three years

On taking a break from daily soaps…
It’s after a gap of three years that I am back in the grind. The last show I did was Kitty Party. When I wasn’t doing anything, I simply pampered myself, went to the gym and spent time with my kids. Of course, there have been several offers but I just didn’t feel the drive to come back - everyone is doing the saas-bahu fare, so why should I do it? I love my life, my children and I don’t need to work to run my house.

I just cannot see myself coming on the sets everyday and mouthing the same dialogues. The reason why I said a yes to Dahhej was that the producers insisted that only I could do the role. When I heard my role, I just couldn’t say a no to it.

On reality television…
I love singing and dancing. Also, in reality shows, you get to play yourself which is a big deal for an actor.  So it will be fun to do a reality show. But nobody has called me for one yet. If I am offered one, I am game for it. I did Fear Factor and it was thrilling.

On enjoying motherhood...
My seven-year-old daughter Vedika and three-and-a half year old son Devan are my life-lines. I enjoy a game of football or swimming with them. When I am shooting, I call them over to the sets and we watch a DVD in between shots. We are a happy go lucky mother-children team.

On her filmi career…
This is going to be my year. Dhoom Dhadaka, a Shashi Ranjan comedy has me playing a real livewire while in Pranali I am playing a prostitute. Also I am doing a Bhojpuri film with Ravi Kishan, Manoj Tiwari and Bhagyashree.

On carving her own identity…
Thankfully, I haven’t been stuck with any image or character name in my career. Yes, my looks were compared to Parveen Babi for a long time. But I took it as a compliment because she was gorgeous to say the least. But thankfully, now people know me as simply Deepshikha. I have been able to make my own identity which I am proud of.

On playing Maya…
My look in Dahhej is being copied by many women. Her gujarati style saree with the jacket look suited the character of the status conscious Maya to the T. She’s a style icon and her no-nonsense attitude just adds to the aura. Even now that she has turned a widow, she looks hot in the white ensemble.
