Vijay Sharma has been accused by a 20-year old reporter working for a news channel of molesting her inside his clinic in a north-west suburb on Saturday when she was working on a story on cosmetic surgeries and had contacted him some days
ago to know about a specific treatment procedure.
"Sharma, who has two dispensaries, called her at his clinic in Khar this morning and gave the necessary details to the girl. When she went ahead to thank him by shaking hands, he kissed her," said a senior police officer.
A cameraperson accompanying the girl was standing outside the consulting room when the incident occurred. Sharma also passed some lewd remarks at the girl after the act, the officer said.
The girl fled from the clinic immediately and was shocked to receive a call from Sharma threatening her against filing telling anyone about the matter claiming he was a very "influential" person.
A complaint was filed with the police immediately and Sharma was arrested under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
A 30-year-old housewife, who had undergone treatment by Sharma, also levelled similar charges on Sunday.
"A housewife has approached us claiming she was repeatedly molested by Sharma. We are verifying the matter and are in the process of filing a fresh complaint against him," said a senior police officer.
The housewife alleged Sharma molested her at least five to six times during post-surgery treatment.
The victim's husband Bhimraj Gupta said "my wife got a breast implant and liposuction suregery done by Sharma around one and half years. However, her breasts started hurting and she went back to him complaining. It was during these visits that she was molested by the surgeon."
Gupta, who has a used cars shop and also deals in real estate said, said his wife stopped Sharma's advances each time and finally told him about it around two months ago.
"I immediately made a written application to the police about it and decided to file a complaint after reading the reports today," he said.
Meanwhile, Sharma was granted a bail of Rs 20,000 in the case filed by the reporter by a Holiday Court on Sunday.
Officers from the Khar police station recorded the housewife's statement and will be filing a fresh FIR against Sharma after verification.
Meanwhile, the family of Sharma is claiming he is being "framed" in the matter.
"He has been a surgeon since 1987 and has operated on several TV and film stars till now. His name is in the `Limca Book of Records' for having done most number of plastic surgeries in India and he was also presented the best cosmetic surgeon in Asia Award at the hands of Michael Jackson in Tokyo in 2000," Sharma's daughter Neha said.
