MUMBAI: Breaking away from the traditionally violent gaming formats, a city-based company has developed a special multiplayer online game based solely on music-and-dance format similar to the one seen in Bollywood films.

"The traditional forms of gaming are unhealthy as there is limited body movement and the violence depicted in them affects the psychology of users, especially children. So we developed a game which was not only healthy but also allowed entire family's participation," Kreeda Games CEO Quentin Staes-Polet said.

"Moreover, Bollywood music has been greatly influencing the lives of Indians. Through our game 'Dance Mela', we intend to recreate the magic of Bollywood on your very own personal computer," the Belgium national now settled in India, said.

`Dance Mela' is possibly India's first mass-multiplayer online dance game, which also provides online socializing opportunity, Staes-Polet said.

In this game, players get to select and customise their 3D avatars, with which they can chat, socialise, shop and of course dance with friends or take on people across India live.

"It will run on low-end machines and won't need very high internet connection speeds and can also be played on dial-up. Being a 3D animated game the basic requirement is installation of graphic card," he said.

As the game data constitutes of 60 MB, the space accommodated on hard disk will be 600 MB. The game will have no problems with 'lag' as it remains connected even if the network drops for 30 seconds."

The game can be also played through a dance mat, which will be connected to the computer taking it out of the PC and making it an interactive exercise and fun machine.

"Dance Mela offers `Beginners Dance Classes' for first-timers, where dance teachers guide you through the steps. A couple of dance classes down the line, and you are ready to join the dancing rooms, where you get to meet other dancers and interact with newer people," Staes-Polet said.

There are scrolling arrows that appear on the screen once any song starts. The idea is to match these with the corresponding fixed arrows at the top to keep on dancing.

Gamers need to get their timing and their moves right to survive the game.

Dance Mela is a free download game which can be downloaded from company website www.dancemela.com.

One can also purchase the game CD from the leading retail stores or can be played in the various cyber outlets.

"We are already in discussions with leading youth magazines, TV channels for dance shows and chain of coffee shops for marketing Dance Mela," said Staes-Polet.

Kreeda has tied up with all major ISPs including Sify for gaming cafes and as a back-end support. The player can do the transactions within the game by purchasing Kreeda cash coupons which will be made available in all the 2500 retail stores across India and also through the cyber cafes.

Indian online gaming industry could touch $200 million by 2010. The online game revolution is about to begin in India and with the quality game such as Dance Mela, we are confident of leading this movement, Staes-Polet added.
